David Ingram is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at the University of York. Previously, he held roles as Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Milan (2016-17) and lecturer at the University of Nottingham (2014-16), where he also completed his PhD in 2014. His research focuses on metaphysics and philosophy of time, particularly defending presentism against metaphysical objections. Key projects include exploring the relationship between presentism, truth theories, and structured propositions.
Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses on Early Modern Philosophy, Metaphysics, Philosophy of Physics, and Spinoza & Leibniz, alongside postgraduate modules on Time, Tense, and Existence. He currently serves as Convenor of Taught Postgraduate Programmes and chairs the Philosophy Exceptional Circumstances Committee.
Research emphasizes presentism's compatibility with truth-dependence theories and proposition structure. Recent work addresses temporal ontology, truth conditions, and metaphysical grounding. External engagements include leadership roles in the Philosophy of Time Society and advisory positions at international associations.
Publications span monographs like Thisness Presentism (2019) and peer-reviewed articles in Ergo, Philosophical Quarterly, and Philosophy and Phenomenological Research. Active collaborations involve scholars like Jonathan Tallant, focusing on presentist theories and temporal metaphysics.
