David Hunt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Sciences at Augusta University's Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Illinois at Urbana (1996), an MA and BS in Sociology from Brigham Young University (1991, 1988). His research focuses on criminology, education, and sociology, with notable work on police practices, online teaching dynamics, and school reform programs. He has received the 2017 Augusta University Teaching Excellence Award for Online Teaching and recognition for collegiality in 2014.
Dr. Hunt teaches courses such as Quantitative Analysis (SOSC 3002), Youth & Society (CRJU/SOCI 3331), and Sociology of Golf (SOCI 4653). His service contributions include roles on over 20 committees at Augusta University, including the Promotion and Tenure Committee (2016-2018) and the Athletics Committee (2015–Present). He also serves on external boards like the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and the Board of Examiners.
His publications address racial tensions in policing, the impact of extracurricular activities on education, and school development programs. A key theme in his work is bridging sociological theory with practical educational and policy applications.
