Todd Powell-Williams is a Professor in the Department of Social Sciences at Georgia Southern University’s Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Southern Illinois University (2008), an MA from Ohio University (2003), and a BA from Kent State University (1997).
His research focuses on Social Movements, Police Science, Symbolic Interactionism, and Gun Violence Prevention. Notable projects include evaluating programs to eradicate gender-based violence and analyzing the impact of body-worn cameras on law enforcement. He received the 2020 Gun Violence Prevention Award from the Georgia Trauma Foundation.
Teaching interests include Deviant Behavior, Social Control, and Violence Reduction, reflected in courses like CRJU 4540 (Law Enforcement in the Digital Age) and SOCI 4443 (Social Movements). He has served on the Faculty Senate (2019–2021) and contributed to community initiatives like discussions at C.T. Walker Traditional Magnet School.
