Kim Davies is a Professor and Dean in the Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Augusta University, serving in the Department of Social Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Ohio State University (1996), along with multiple MA and BA degrees in Sociology and Women's Studies from the same institution.
Her research focuses on criminology, gender-based violence, homicide patterns, and sociological methods. Notable projects include analyzing pandemic impacts on homicide rates, transgender homicide demographics, and program evaluations targeting gender-based violence prevention. She has contributed to media studies examining gender representation in police portrayals and educational materials.
Awards include the 2015 Leadership Award from Georgia Regents University Office of Faculty Development and the 2009 Louis K. Bell Alumni Research Award. Davies has served on numerous committees including the Institute of Public and Preventive Health Advisory Board, the Office of Diversity & Inclusion’s Steering Committee, and the Homicide Research Working Group as Director (2018-2022).
Her teaching spans courses like 'Sociology of Murder' and 'Women, Crime, and Criminal Justice System.' Professional service includes roles with the American Sociological Association’s LGBTQ+ committee and peer review for journals like Feminist Criminology. Community engagement includes the PEACE initiative with the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives and the FBI Citizen’s Academy Program.
