Dr. Melissa Powell-Williams is a Professor in the Department of Social Sciences at Augusta University's Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. She also holds affiliations with the Institute for Public and Preventive Health and the School of Public Health. Her research focuses on identity work, social movements, subcultures, and organizational dynamics, with recent projects addressing police perceptions of body-worn cameras, race relations, and media influence. She teaches courses on gender studies, qualitative methods, and social psychology.

She also leads initiatives such as the Qualitative Research Lab and the Women's and Gender Studies Committee.
