David G. Anderson is a Professor of Anthropology at the University of Aberdeen and holds the UArctic Chair in Anthropology of the Arctic. He has been based at the University of Aberdeen since 2000 and was appointed Chair in the Anthropology of the North in 2013. His work focuses on the circumpolar North, engaging with Indigenous communities such as the Evenki and Gwich’in peoples. He actively contributed to the University of Aberdeen joining the UArctic network and hosted the Rector Conference in Aberdeen in 2017.
He leads the UArctic Thematic Network CAFÉ (Circumpolar Archives, Folklore and Ethnography) and is a member of the UArctic Thematic Network on Circular Economy. His research spans ethnography, ethnohistory, archaeology, Rangifer genetics, and political ecology, emphasizing the intersection of cultural practices and environmental dynamics in Arctic regions.
