David Chapman Lindsay is a Professor of Foundation Studies at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) since Fall 2022. Previously, he held roles as an Associate Professor (2011–2019) at Texas Tech University and served as M.F.A. degree coordinator (2016–2017). His career includes directorships at Sites Set for Knowledge (2017–2022) and the School of Art (2017–2019), alongside course development at Ensign College (2017–2019). Lindsay holds an M.F.A. from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a B.F.A. from Utah State University.
His research focuses on contemporary sculpture, public art installations, and site-specific works. Notable projects include The Heavens Bent to Meet Us (2017) and Ever Ascending (2018), exploring spatial narratives and interdisciplinary collaboration. Lindsay has received grants such as the Scholarship Catalyst Grant (2018) and Arte Laguna Special Prize (2010), supporting public art initiatives and international residencies.
Awards highlight his contributions to art education and cultural projects: the Common Field Support Grant (for collaborative infrastructure), Utah Humanities Grant (Sanpete Valley oral histories), and multiple Texas Tech research grants. His exhibitions span venues from New York’s Riverside Church to Venice’s Arsenale, emphasizing global artistic dialogue.
As an educator, Lindsay has shaped curricula through roles like course developer and residency organizer. His work bridges artistic practice with pedagogy, evident in projects like Popwalk (a smartphone app for public art exploration) and collaborations with institutions in Europe. Residencies include the Granary Arts Fellowship (Utah), Hilmsen 1 (Germany), and Studio Arts Center International (Italy).
