David Cameron is a Professor of Medical Oncology at the University of Edinburgh, with a focus on breast cancer treatment and clinical trials. He works at the NHS Lothian cancer centre and serves as the part-time deputy director of the Scottish Government funded Innovative Health Care Delivery Programme (IHDP), which aims to enhance routine data utilization in cancer care. Cameron chairs the Scottish National SACT programme board and Cancer SACT data group, and internationally, he leads the Brussels-based Breast International Group Executive Board and co-chairs the Oxford-based Early Breast Cancer Clinical Trialists’ Group.
His research centers on breast cancer, chemotherapy, and clinical trial design, with a particular interest in HER2-positive and triple-negative breast cancer treatments. Cameron's work spans phase I to phase III clinical trials, including studies on trastuzumab, taxanes, and adjuvant therapies. He has contributed to meta-analyses and policy reviews, such as breast cancer screening guidelines. His research group collaborates with Cancer Research UK, ICR, and Glasgow Clinical Trials Units, supported by grants from the Scottish Government, CRUK, and Edinburgh and Lothian Health Foundation.
