Dr. Grem's research focuses on intersections of religion, capitalism, and politics in 20th-century U.S. history, particularly the American South. His work examines how conservative evangelicals leveraged business networks to advance cultural and political goals, and he is preparing a book on the Great Depression's memory in post-WWII American popular culture and politics.
His publications include The Blessings of Business (2016) and co-edited volumes like The Business Turn in American Religious History (2017). He has held postdoctoral fellowships at Yale and Emory, and his courses span topics from Southern music history to U.S. capitalism.
Dr. Grem contributes to academic discourse through his role at the Center for the Study of Southern Culture, where he integrates institutional growth with Southern cultural studies. His upcoming book, Hard Times, USA, explores Depression-era memory in political activism and artistic media.
