Daqing Yang is an Associate Professor specializing in modern Japanese history, imperialism, and East Asian historical memory. He is affiliated with Georgetown University and serves as co-founder and co-director of the Memory and Reconciliation in the Asia Pacific program at the Sigur Center for Asian Studies. His research spans the technological foundations of Japanese imperialism, WWII history, and postwar Japan-Asia relations.
Dr. Yang holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University (1996). He has held visiting roles at Harvard University (2006 as Edwin O. Reischauer Visiting Professor of Japanese Studies) and taught at the University of Tokyo, Waseda University, and Yonsei University. He served as a Historical Consultant to the U.S. National Archives’ Interagency Working Group on Nazi and Japanese War Crimes records (2004).
His research interests include the technological construction of empires, WWII memory politics, and reconciliation efforts in East Asia. Current projects focus on energy resources in the Japanese empire and postwar regional reconciliation.
Publications include Technology of Empire (2011) and edited volumes on Sino-Japanese relations and WWII commemorations. His work emphasizes transnational approaches to historical understanding and regional reconciliation.
