Danny Beard

Dr. Danny Beard is an Associate Professor in the Department of Music at the University of Southern Mississippi. His expertise lies in Music Theory, Pedagogy, and Music Education. He holds a PhD in Music Theory from Florida State University (2003), a Master of Music (2000), a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Auburn University (1986). Prior to academia, he worked as an engineer, presenting at environmental conferences such as the Georgia Pacific Corporation Environmental Conference and the U.S. EPA Region IV Hazardous Waste Minimization Conference (1994).

His research focuses on innovative teaching methodologies in music theory, form and analysis, and instrumentation. He has presented at conferences including Pedagogy Into Practice, Music Theory Southeast, and the American Orff Schulwerk Association. In 2004, he received the Dorothy Payne Award for outstanding student presentation. Courses taught include Music Theory I-IV, Ear Training, Music Appreciation, and Pedagogy of Music Theory.
