Kirsten Mitak

Kirsten Mitak is a Professor in the Department of Music at the University of Rhode Island since 2013. She specializes in music education, piano pedagogy, and choral direction, with certifications in Orff-Schulwerk and Kodály methods. Her research focuses on older adult learning, published in the Florida Music Director. She is also a performer, collaborating with vocalists, instrumentalists, and choirs.

• Education: Ph.D. in Music Education (Florida State University), M.M.E. in Piano Pedagogy (Florida State University), B.S. in Music Education (Rhode Island College)

Her research and teaching emphasize adult learners and music education innovation. She has presented at RIMEA and MMEA conferences and serves as a clinician for piano festivals. Dr. Mitak leads choirs at Saints John & Paul Church and co-produced the EP "A Cradle in Bethlehem" with percussionist Ethan Thurber.

She advises students through Boston University’s School of Music and teaches at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI).
