Michael Chandler is an Assistant Professor of Music and Coordinator of Music Education at Austin Peay State University. He holds a PhD in Music Education from the University of North Texas, an MA from the University of St. Thomas, an MM from the University of Arkansas, and a BM from Union University. His research focuses on teacher longevity and musical creativity in elementary music education. Dr. Chandler has extensive experience, including 16 years teaching elementary general music in Texas public schools and 10 years as a collaborative pianist for the Children's Chorus of Greater Dallas. He has presented workshops in 38 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, and Australia, and authored Everyday Recorder, Recorder Everyday!
His research interests emphasize fostering creativity through music and sustaining teacher well-being. Notable publications include studies on recorder pedagogy and pandemic-era music collaborations. Awards include multiple Teacher of the Year recognitions and invitations to perform at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Convention. He is an AOSA-approved Orff Schulwerk teacher educator and has held leadership roles in the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.
Dr. Chandler’s work blends practical classroom strategies with theoretical research, advocating for innovative approaches to music education. He currently oversees music education programs at APSU and contributes to national music education initiatives.
