Daniela Heunis

Daniela Heunis is a Senior Lecturer in Flute and Music Education at Rhodes University's Department of Music & Musicology in Grahamstown, South Africa. She has been affiliated with the university since 1985 and holds degrees from Stellenbosch University (BA in Flute Performance, BMus Hons in Music Education) and Rhodes University (MMus). She also earned Licentiates in Flute Performance and Teaching from the University of South Africa.

Research & Professional Engagement: Specializes in music education pedagogy, cultural diversity in music, and assessment methodologies. Presented academic papers at conferences such as the International Society of Music Education (Pretoria, 1998), Sharing the Voices Symposium (Canada, 1997–1999), and the International Symposium on Choral Conducting (London, 2000). Authored posters on music education topics at Forte 2004 (Toronto) and the South African Association of Women Graduates (2002).

Adjudication & Outreach: Regularly adjudicates eisteddfods (ATKV Prelude & Forte, 1820 Foundation Eisteddfod, ECSMO Choir Competitions) and delivers masterclasses for disadvantaged schools via ECSMO. Organized flute masterclasses at Rhodes College, Memphis, USA.

Future Work: Continues research on cultural diversity in music education, as seen in her participation in conferences like Seattle (2008) and Sydney (2010).
