Dr. Daniel Sprick is a Research Associate and Lecturer at the Chair of Chinese Legal Culture at the University of Cologne. He teaches courses on Chinese legal history, economic law, and commercial law. His PhD from the East Asian Institute at the University of Cologne focused on the limits of self-defense in Chinese criminal law. Sprick has been recognized with the Hanenburg-Yntema Prize (2008) for his European thesis on Chinese law.
Research Interests: Chinese criminal law, competition law, law and technology, law and society, AI governance, and terrorism policy. He examines topics like authoritarian AI regulation, counter-terrorism legal frameworks, and the intersection of technology with legal systems in China.
