Daniel DeLaurentis is the Bruce Reese Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue University, serving as Chief Scientist of the Department of Defense Systems Engineering Research Center UARC and Vice President for Research Institutes and Centers at the Purdue Discovery Park District. He holds a B.S. (1992) and M.S. (1993) from the Florida Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. (1998) from Georgia Institute of Technology, all in Aerospace Engineering.
His research focuses on system-of-systems engineering, including design methods for autonomous systems, aerospace systems synthesis, and network theory applications. Key interests include robust design frameworks, advanced aerial mobility concepts, and policy analysis for aviation sustainability. He has pioneered methodologies for modeling complex systems such as lunar exploration architectures, air traffic networks, and multi-modal transport systems.

His research also integrates interdisciplinary approaches, exploring synergies between industrial ecology and systems engineering in complex systems like air transportation networks. He collaborates on projects addressing humanitarian infrastructure optimization, pandemic transmission modeling, and space exploration architectures.
