Daniel Cooperman is a Lecturer at Stanford Law School and Fellow at the Arthur and Toni Rembe Rock Center for Corporate Governance. He co-teaches "The Role of the Modern General Counsel" course with Professor Joseph Grundfest and Anastasia Kelly, bringing together law and business students to tackle real-world corporate legal challenges.
His professional background includes serving as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of Apple Inc. (2007-2009) and Oracle Corporation (1997-2007). Cooperman currently works as Of Counsel with Bingham McCutchen law firm, focusing on corporate governance, board issues, and consultation on general counsel roles.
Cooperman's research interests center on the evolving role of general counsel in corporate structures, ethical decision-making frameworks, and human rights compliance challenges for multinational corporations. He has commented extensively on how UN human rights standards interact with local laws across different jurisdictions, noting that "Multinational corporations need to make sure that their endorsements aren't empty words" when implementing human rights policies.
