Daniel Ames serves as the Ting Tsung and Wei Fong Chao Professor of Business in the Management Division at Columbia Business School. His academic appointments span the fields of Organizational Behavior, Decision Making & Negotiations, and Leadership.
Professor Ames' research focuses on social judgment and behavior, examining how people form impressions of themselves and others, and how these judgments influence interpersonal dynamics. His work explores both prosocial behaviors (trust, cooperation, helping) and competitive interactions (negotiations, conflict, aggression), with particular attention to how people 'read minds' to make inferences about others' thoughts, desires, and emotions.
His publication record shows consistent output in top journals, with recent work examining leadership perception, negotiation strategies, intercultural accuracy, and emotional intelligence. The research demonstrates a strong theoretical foundation in social psychology while maintaining practical relevance for organizational settings.
