Daniel Feiler is an Associate Professor with tenure at the Tuck School of Business, Dartmouth College. He is a behavioral scientist whose research explores the psychology of judgment and decision making and its role in organizational behavior and management science. He serves as a Senior Editor at Organization Science and an Associate Editor at Management Science.
- Education: Ph.D. in Business Administration, Duke University (2012)
- B.S. with highest honors in Economics and Decision Science, Carnegie Mellon University (2007)
- Post-Doctoral Fellow, Visiting Assistant Professor, Dartmouth College (2012-2014)
Feiler's research focuses on cognitive biases, decision-making processes, and social networks. His notable work includes the study of 'network extraversion bias,' which demonstrates how people's social networks tend to overrepresent extroverts, leading individuals to believe others are more social than they actually are. His research on regret reveals how people overestimate the attractiveness of forgone alternatives, creating a hidden source of regret. His work has been published in top journals including Management Science, Psychological Science, and Organization Science, and has received popular press coverage in The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, New York Magazine, Fast Company, and The Washington Post.
Feiler has made significant contributions to understanding how uncertainty affects expectations and decision-making. His research shows how people overestimate outcomes of choices they make while underestimating alternatives, and how this bias can be mitigated through better information and expectation calibration.
