Dr. Dan Lucas is a Lecturer in Computational Mathematics and Statistics at the University of St Andrews School of Mathematics and Statistics. His research investigates fluid flow complexity arising from nonlinear equations of motion, encompassing turbulence, instability, control, waves, resonance, and extreme events.
Key publications explore flow stabilization mechanisms, recurrent structures in turbulence, and wave resonances. Current projects include EPSRC-funded work on stabilizing coherent structures in fluid turbulence. He supervises PhD candidate Stefan Faaland.
Research employs numerical simulations to analyze flow transitions, mixing phenomena, and energy transfer in stratified environments.
