Damian Rubido Gonzalez is a Classical Lecturer and Double Bass and Chamber Music Visiting Tutor at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, alongside a Lecturer role at Leeds Conservatoire. Formerly, he held principal positions in orchestras such as the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic (2012–2016), London Philharmonic (2017), and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (2018–2023). He has performed with leading ensembles including the London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, and BBC Symphony Orchestra under renowned conductors like Simon Rattle and Valery Gergiev.
His education includes undergraduate degrees in piano and double bass from Conservatorio Superior de Música Óscar Esplá in Alicante, followed by advanced studies at Guildhall School of Music and Royal College of Music (London), where he earned a Master’s degree with distinction under Thomas Martin. He has received scholarships from institutions like Fundación Caja Madrid and Joven Orquesta Nacional de España.
Award-winning performer, Damián has specialized in double bass technique and chamber music. His pedagogical focus includes nurturing students in classical performance through masterclasses and academic instruction. Mentors include Thomas Martin, Caroline Palmer, and others, while his own masterclass collaborations span global artists like Rinat Ibramigov and Joel Quarrington.
