D. Wayne Higby is a Professor and Robert C. Turner Chair of Ceramic Art at Alfred University's New York State College of Ceramics. He also serves as Director of the Ceramic Art Museum and holds international appointments as Honorary Professor at Shanghai University, Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute, and the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing. His work explores the intersection of nature and materiality, with installations like EarthCloud and recognition in major institutions worldwide.

Research interests center on ceramic art’s role in interpreting landscape and cultural identity, with exhibitions at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and MoMA Tokyo. His work is in over 40 museum collections globally.
Awards include the James Renwick Alliance’s Distinguished Educator Award (2002) and the American Craft Museum Visionary Award (1995). He is a Vice President of the International Academy of Ceramics and contributes to educational initiatives in China through lectures and residencies.
