Craig Knox is an Artist Lecturer in Tuba at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Music and a faculty member at the Curtis Institute of Music. He has served as Principal Tuba of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra since 2005, with prior roles in the San Francisco Symphony and Sacramento Symphony. A renowned performer, he has collaborated with major orchestras globally and premiered significant works like Jennifer Higdon’s Tuba Concerto and Andre Previn’s Triple Concerto. His recordings, including A Road Less Traveled and From the Back Row, have garnered critical acclaim.
As an educator, he has taught at Duquesne University, Kent State University, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, focusing on brass chamber music. He has presented master classes worldwide, emphasizing pedagogy and performance.
His chamber music projects include co-founding the Center City Brass Quintet, which released acclaimed recordings on Chandos and Octavia labels. He holds a Bachelor of Music from the Curtis Institute and pursued graduate studies at Boston University.
