Courtney Rydel is Chair and Associate Professor of English and Director of the Sophie Kerr Endowment at Washington College. She holds an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. from The College of New Jersey, with certifications in Gender Studies and pedagogy.
Her research explores medieval literature through interdisciplinary lenses, notably collaborating with biology professor Jennie Carr on a project analyzing avian behavior in Chaucer's Parliament of Fowls. She has contributed to National Geographic documentaries on medieval hagiography.
Publications focus on gender in saints' lives, translation theory, and Chaucer studies. Recent works demonstrate strong interdisciplinary trends bridging literature, science, and digital humanities. Awarded the Dickes Fell Prize (2009) for contributions to documentary film.
