Courtney Pedersen

Courtney Pedersen is a Senior Lecturer in Visual Arts at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), affiliated with the Faculty of Creative Industries, Education & Social Justice and the School of Creative Arts. She has held leadership roles as Academic Program Director and Head of Discipline for Visual Arts since 2006. Her research focuses on gender, creative practice-led research, and visual arts pedagogy, with a PhD (2005) exploring feminism and public installation art. Prior to academia, she was an artist and studied photography at the Victorian College of the Arts.

• Co-director of feminist collective LEVEL and board member of Boxcopy Contemporary Art Space

• Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching (2007)
• Keynote speaker at Art Gallery of South Australia (2017)

Teaching & Supervision:

• Specializes in 20th/21st-century art, exhibition practices, and interdisciplinary learning
• Supervised over 10 doctoral and master’s theses, including works on socially engaged art, neoliberal feminism, and contemporary screen-based art

Publications: Recent works address feminist theory, sustainability, and artistic collaboration, including fractionate (2024) and The feminine bravery construct (2023).
