Dr. Cori E. Dauber is a Professor of Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Research Fellow at the Triangle Institute for Security Studies (TISS). Her research focuses on the visual propaganda strategies of terrorist groups, particularly the Islamic State and Al-Qaeda, emphasizing the analysis of digital and visual media in extremist communication. She holds a Ph.D. and B.S. from Northwestern University and an M.A. from the University of North Carolina.
Her work has been published in Military Review, Armed Forces & Society, and Rhetoric & Public Affairs, among others. She has presented her research globally, including at NATO conferences and the Terrorism and Social Media Conference. Dr. Dauber’s recent honors include an accepted article in Studies in Conflict & Terrorism (2017) and a plenary speaking role at the NATO Communication and Information Conference in Valencia, Spain (2017).
Her current research with Mark D. Robinson aims to develop a systematic methodology for evaluating extremist visual products. She has co-edited books such as Visual Propaganda and Extremism in the Online Environment (2014) and authored You Tube War: Fighting in a World of Cameras in Every Cell Phone and Photoshop on Every Computer (2010).
