Paul Gill is a Professor of Security and Crime Science at the University College London (UCL), affiliated with the Department of Security and Crime Science. He previously held a postdoctoral research fellowship at the International Center for the Study of Terrorism, Pennsylvania State University.
Research Interests: His work focuses on terrorism, including suicide bombing motivations, lone-actor terrorism, terrorist network structures, and risk assessment methodologies. He investigates how cognitive inflexibility, psychological distress, and "dark" personality traits relate to extremist behavior. His research spans criminology, political science, and psychological profiling.
Publications & Grants: He has authored over 143 publications, including studies on open-source data limitations, crowdsourcing extremism research, and terrorist propaganda analysis. Funded by organizations like the European Research Council, Office for Naval Research, and National Institute of Justice, his projects explore IED development, soft target vulnerabilities, and terrorist communication.
