Joshua D. Freilich is a Professor in the Criminal Justice Department at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, part of the City University of New York. His work focuses on domestic terrorism, extremist violence, and media coverage of crime, with a particular emphasis on far-right, left-wing, and jihadist-inspired extremism. He co-developed the United States Extremist Crime Database (ECDB) and School Shooting Database (SSDB), and his research has been funded by the Department of Homeland Security and National Institute of Justice.
Research Trends: Freilich's publications analyze patterns in extremist violence, media influence on terrorism perception, and data-driven criminological methodologies. He has conducted comparative studies on lone wolf terrorism, ideological victimization, and the organizational dynamics of hate groups.
