Andrew Vitek is an Associate Teaching Professor of Political Science and Director of the Counterterrorism Option at Penn State's Department of Political Science. He is affiliated with the Intercollege Master of Professional Studies in Homeland Security program. His research focuses on comparative politics, political violence, extremism, and democratization processes. Previously, he conducted graduate studies at SUNY Albany's Rockefeller School, focusing on counterterrorism and political violence projects.
Key research areas include the global far-right movement, domestic extremism dynamics, and terrorism studies. His pedagogical innovations involve integrating popular culture elements like songs and cartoons into teaching international relations and comparative politics. He currently teaches courses related to homeland security and political science at University Park.
