Colleen Richardson is an Associate Professor at the Don Wright Faculty of Music, Western University, where she serves as Director of the Wind Ensemble & Symphonic Band and Coordinator of Bands. A renowned conductor and educator, she is a former President of the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) and has guest-conducted or presented research internationally, including in Brazil, The Netherlands, South Korea, and the U.S.

Her research focuses on music education and band conducting pedagogy, with publications in the Teaching Music Through Performance in Band series and journals like Canadian Winds and Canadian Music Educator Journal. She co-directed the Tri-State Chamber Players and served as Music Director of the Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble during her doctoral studies. In 2005, she joined Converse College as Assistant Professor of Music Education, transitioning to Western University in 2006.
Richardson received the Canadian Band Association’s International Band Award in 2018 for her contributions to the global band movement. She has adjudicated at prestigious events such as the World Music Contest (The Netherlands), New York International Music Festival, and Singapore International Band Festival. Her editorial work includes the Hunsberger DVD in GIA’s Three Icons series.
She co-founded the Western Young Winds Program in 2013, providing enrichment for local grade 6–9 band students, and supervises undergraduate music education students involved in teaching and conducting this ensemble. Her recordings, Apparitions and Explorations, are available on major platforms.
