Colleen Montgomery is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair in the Radio, Television & Film Department at Rowan University’s Ric Edelman College of Communication & Creative Arts. She holds an M.A. from the University of British Columbia and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on animation, film sound, and vocal performance with specialties in Disney and Pixar studios, translation studies, and feminist media analysis.
Her current projects include a monograph on vocal performance in Disney/Pixar animations for UC Press and co-editing The Oxford Handbook of the Disney Musical and The Oxford Handbook of Media and Vocality. Her work appears in journals like American Music, Animation Studies, and Media Industries, exploring topics such as dubbing practices, vocal performance theories, and post-Soviet cinema.
Montgomery teaches courses like Applied Media Aesthetics and Deconstructing Disney: From Mickey to Marvel. Her research consistently bridges historical media analysis with contemporary cultural studies, particularly examining gender representation and transnational media practices.
