Professor Colin J Stirling serves as the President and Vice-Chancellor of Flinders University, a position he has held since 2015. As the 8th leader of the institution, he has spearheaded Flinders University's transformation to become the fastest growing research institution in Australia, with research income more than doubling in just five years.
Professor Stirling was born and educated in Scotland, earning his honours degree at The University of Edinburgh followed by a PhD in Genetics from the University of Glasgow. He was awarded a NATO Research Fellowship at the University of California, Berkeley, before taking an academic position at The University of Manchester. In 2011, he moved to Australia to join Curtin University as Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic.
His research background is in Genetics, though his current focus centers on academic leadership and institutional development. Under his guidance, Flinders University has achieved recognition as number one in South Australia for student experience and continues to expand its research capabilities.

Professor Stirling serves on the boards of Education Australia Ltd. and IDP Education Ltd. (ASX100: IEL). His strategic vision for Flinders includes major capital investments such as the City Campus at Festival Plaza, the Health and Medical Research Building at Bedford Park, and the Factory of the Future at Tonsley, positioning the university as an emerging powerhouse in the Australian higher education sector.
