Professor Colin Roberts is an Adjunct Professor at Curtin University's Faculty of Science and Engineering, affiliated with the Western Australian School of Mines (WASM) and the Department of Petroleum Engineering. He lectures on International Petroleum Law and Economics, and holds roles as an international resources geo-strategist, arbitrator, and emissary for the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). His expertise spans resource engineering, international law, and dispute resolution.
Education: B.Eng (Curtin), Eur.Ing (FEANI), P.Eng, C.Eng, C.Pet.Eng, C.Sci, LL.M (Dundee), DJur(JD), GDLP, P.G.Dip.ICA (QMUL).
Research Interests: Sovereign risk mitigation, international arbitration, resources policy, and transnational business law. Geographically focuses on Africa, Asia, and the Australia-Pacific region.
Notable achievements include the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for establishing the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) at Dundee. He co-authored the IBA Rules on Investor-State Mediation and advises governments on resource policy and FDI.
Professional Roles: Director of Salternas Ltd (world’s largest solar-salt project), board member of AMPLA, CIArb, AIE, DBF, and past-chair of AusIMM-WA. 25% of his work is pro bono for NGOs and LDCs.
