Mark Ogden is the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Science and Engineering and Professor of Chemistry at Curtin University. He holds a PhD from the University of Western Australia (1991) and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford. His career at Curtin includes roles as Head of the School of Molecular and Life Sciences, Director of the Nanochemistry Research Institute, and Head of the Department of Chemistry. Ogden's research focuses on lanthanide-based materials, hydrogels, crystal growth control, and transition metal chemistry. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed articles and supervised PhD students employed in industry (e.g., Rio Tinto, Orica) and academia. His leadership spans research training and faculty governance. Key awards include Fellowships from the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and Royal Society of Chemistry.
- Education: PhD (Chemistry, UWA, 1991)
- Research: Synthesis of luminescent materials, crystal growth modifiers, and coordination polymers. Collaborations include groups at Curtin (Massi, Becker, Jones, Arrigan).
Publications emphasize lanthanide complexes and their applications in optoelectronics. Current projects include light-emitting devices and scale inhibition technologies. Ogden also contributes to editorial roles (e.g., Supramolecular Chemistry).
