Professor Colin Picker serves as the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law at the University of Wollongong. Previously, he held deanships at the University of Wollongong's Faculty of Law, Humanities and the Arts, and UNSW Law, where he contributed to roles like Associate Dean (International). Educated at Bowdoin College (A.B., 1992), Yale Law School (J.D., 1996), and the University of New South Wales (Ph.D., 2013), his expertise spans International Economic Law, Comparative Law, and China's legal dynamics. He co-founded the Society of International Economic Law (SIEL) and led its Executive Vice Presidency until 2014, fostering regional networks like the Asian IEL Network and African IEL Network. His research focuses on WTO reform, legal cultural analyses, and international trade agreements, with over 60 publications in top journals and presses. Awards include Fellowship in the Australian Academy of Law (2019).
Professor Picker has supervised PhD candidates exploring topics such as Fiji's judicial independence, food security in global trade, and surrogacy via international agreements. His grants include projects on China-Australia trade terms, transnational legal practice development, and collaborative research with Wuhan University. He chairs the Global Working Group on International Students and Law Schools and holds leadership roles in organizations like the New Silk Road Law School Alliance. His work bridges legal scholarship, global policy, and educational innovation.
