Clare Britton is a contemporary artist and researcher based at the Esme Timbrey Creative Practice Lab within the Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney. Her practice-led PhD (2020) supervised by Julie Rrap, Mikala Dwyer, and Ann Elias explores the interplay between water dynamics, storytelling, and site-specific creative processes. She has lectured in Visual and Contemporary Art at her alma mater since 2016.
Research Focus: Clare's work interrogates the intersection of site-based art, performance design, and environmental narratives through long-term projects like A Week on the Cooks River and Polar Force (2018-23), an experimental sound work utilizing Antarctic field recordings. Her practice spans installation, durational walks, and collaborative projects with artists, scientists, and Indigenous communities.
Research Outputs show strong engagement with water ecologies, cross-disciplinary methodologies, and ecological activism, demonstrated through publications in Bodies of Water- A Reader (2021) and participation in the 13th Shanghai Biennale. Collaborative projects like Magnetic Topographies with Therese Keogh and Kenzee Patterson highlight her commitment to collective knowledge production.
