Consuelo Cavaniglia

Consuelo Cavaniglia is an interdisciplinary artist, independent curator, and educator affiliated with UNSW Art, Design & Architecture as an Associate Lecturer. She co-founded the experimental art space sydenham international, focusing on space perception, feminist relational methodologies, and artist community activation.

Her research examines how architectural structures shape societal power dynamics, using installation art, sculpture, and light-based practices. She specializes in site-responsive art, materiality, and curatorial projects addressing institutional critique.

Grants include Creative Australia New Work Grants (2023, 2021) and Create NSW Artist Grants (2021). She was awarded the 2016 Create NSW Visual Art Fellowship (Emerging) and shortlisted for the Fauvette Loureiro Traveling Grant (2017, 2023).

As an educator, she has taught at the University of Sydney (2013–2021) and UNSW Art and Design (since 2017), co-developing the ART to ART program (2023) to bridge artists and curators. She supervises practice-led research in installation, public art, and multidisciplinary practices.

Cavaniglia contributes to the art ecosystem through co-founding sydenham international and the CUT N POLISH Artist Car Boot Sale. Her curatorial projects include FIRSTS (2024) and witness. collectors, archivist, narrator (2024). She serves as a peer assessor for Creative Australia and has judged art prizes like the John Fries Award (2017, 2018).
