Dr. Clare Barratt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), part of the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a B.S. from Eckerd College, an M.A. from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. Her research focuses on social networks and relationships influencing employee attitudes, emotions, and behavior, particularly in high-risk occupations like nursing and law enforcement. She examines how workplace and home social networks affect perceptions of support and inclusion, and their impact on behaviors (e.g., counterproductive work behaviors). She also investigates stress and burnout mitigation strategies in dangerous work environments.
Dr. Barratt teaches graduate courses such as Contemporary Issues in the World of Work, Meta-Analysis Methods, and Personal Relationships in the Workplace, as well as undergraduate Quantitative Methods I. She actively mentors graduate students and sponsors undergraduate research. Her work has been published in journals like Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Sex Roles.
Notable research areas include the role of supervisor support in stress management, mindfulness interventions for healthcare professionals, and collaborative processes in ecosystem management. Her findings aim to improve workplace well-being and organizational effectiveness. Dr. Barratt’s research has implications for designing supportive work environments and addressing disparities in high-stress occupations.
