Dr Clare Archer-Lean is a Senior Lecturer in English and HDR Coordinator at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC), Australia. She leads the English discipline within the School of Business and Creative Industries and coordinates Higher Degree Research activities. Her work bridges anti-colonial literary studies, critical animal studies, and ecocriticism, emphasizing ethical human-animal relations and sustainability.
Education: PhD (Qld.UT), BA(Hons) (Qld.UT), BA (UNE), Grad Dip Ed (Sunshine Coast).
Research Interests: Clare’s research focuses on transdisciplinary connections between anti-colonial literary practices and animal studies. She explores themes like Indigenous literatures, climate change narratives, and the human dimensions of animal management. Her work critiques anthropocentrism and advocates for compassionate interspecies relations.
Grants & Collaborations: Clare leads the ARC-funded 'Reading Climate' project (2024–2026), integrating Indigenous voices into climate education. She co-led the 'Iconic Dingo' study (2015), addressing human-dingo conflicts on Fraser Island. She is a core member of Melbourne University’s Literary Education Lab and UniSC’s Indigenous and Transcultural Research Centre.
Awards: 2024 UniSC Excellence in Graduate Supervision Award (supervised over 20 HDR completions), 2012 Early Career Researcher Award.
