Professor Claire Goodman is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Technology Sydney and holds roles as Theme Lead for Ageing and Multimorbidity at NIHR Applied Research Collaboration East of England, and Emerita NIHR Senior Investigator. She is a Fellow of the Queen’s Community Nursing Institute and was awarded an MBE in 2024 for services to older people's research. Her research focuses on older adults' health needs, particularly those with dementia in long-term care settings, and integrates health and social care systems. She led major studies like the DACHA initiative and the DEMCOM evaluation of dementia-friendly communities.
Her work emphasizes care home quality improvement, minimum data set development, and palliative care in dementia. She has contributed to policy through initiatives like the STRENGTHEN palliative care action plan and the SEED programme for end-of-life care in dementia. She collaborates internationally, including a project on Vietnamese elder mental health. Her leadership includes roles at CLAHRC East of England and NIHR funding councils.
Key contributions include over 240 publications and 58 projects, addressing topics like care home staffing, GP workforce sustainability, and home-based frailty interventions. Awards include MBE, NIHR Senior Investigatorship, and Queen’s Nursing Fellowship. Her work bridges research with practical healthcare solutions for aging populations.
