Dr. Cindy Maurel is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Macquarie Medical School's Motor Neuron Disease Research Centre, Macquarie University. She relocated to Sydney in 2019 to apply her expertise in molecular biology, cell biology, and neurosciences to Dr. Morsch's zebrafish platform. Her research focuses on TDP-43 aggregation, post-translational modifications (e.g., SUMOylation), and their role in ALS.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Neurobiology, Université de Tours (2018)
- Master's in Structural and Functional Biology, Université Paul Sabatier
Research Interests:
- Mechanisms of TDP-43 phase separation and aggregation
- Impact of SUMOylation and lysine modifications on protein behavior
- Zebrafish models for neurodegenerative disease studies
Current Projects:
- FightMND 24: Identifying molecular targets for TDP-43 condensation (2025–2028)
- IDEAS 23: TDP-43 nuclear depletion and therapeutic targets (2024–2027)
- MNDRA24: Lysine modifications and TDP-43 phase transitions (2024–2025)
Key Findings: Her work bridges molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration with in vivo models, emphasizing translational potential for ALS therapies.
