Ciara Fitzgerald is a Lecturer in Business Information Systems at the Cork University Business School, University College Cork (UCC). She holds a PhD in Strategic Management, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation from NUI Galway, alongside an MBS and BSc in Business Information Systems from UCC and NUI Galway. Her research focuses on technology innovation, entrepreneurship, and strategy, with an emphasis on university-industry collaboration, intellectual property management, and health information systems.
Research interests include the role of technology transfer offices (TTOs) in fostering innovation, citizen participation in technology decision-making, and the intersection of aging and technology policy. She co-directs the Health Information Systems Research Centre at UCC and has contributed to projects like the PACITA summer schools on technology assessment.
Her publications span journals such as Journal of Technology Transfer and Research Policy, with topics ranging from TTO legitimacy to sustainable energy behaviors. Awards include the Best Graduate Student Literature Review Prize (2011) and PRTLI fellowships for doctoral and postdoctoral research. She has advised national policymakers and collaborated internationally on innovation policy, including a keynote at the 2014 Technology Transfer Conference in Urbino, Italy.
Professional roles include membership in the Technology Transfer Society and American Academy of Management. Outreach activities include public consultations on sustainable consumption and workshops on PhD journeys for early-stage researchers.
