Chunhong Yan is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University. She is also a member of the Molecular Oncology & Biomarkers Program at the Georgia Cancer Center and affiliated with The Graduate School. Her research focuses on the transcription factor ATF3 and its role in cancer biology, particularly in regulating p53, DNA damage response, and prostate cancer suppression.
Research Interests:
- Regulation of the DNA damage response via ATF3-p53-MDM2 axis
- Suppression of prostate cancer through inhibition of androgen receptor and Akt signaling
- Development of transcription-targeted cancer therapies using CRISPR and Flp-in based drug screening platforms
- Metabolic stress responses in cancer, including serine metabolism and ferroptosis
Her recent publications highlight a strong focus on ATF3-mediated regulation of tumor suppression, p53 activation, and novel therapeutic strategies such as MDMX inhibition and mitochondrial uncouplers. The work spans molecular mechanisms, mouse models, and drug discovery, reflecting a translational research approach.
Scientific Service:
- Editor, Genes & Diseases (2018–Present)
Dr. Yan mentors a research team of postdoctoral fellows and has developed innovative tools for high-throughput screening of anti-cancer compounds. She teaches BCMB 9010: Seminar in BMB and is actively involved in graduate education and cancer research at Augusta University.
