Dr. Christopher Day is a Senior Research Fellow and Research Leader at Griffith University's Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics. His research focuses on glycan-mediated host-pathogen interactions and glycan-based cancer biomarkers.
Research programs include:
- Glycan receptors in bacterial toxin interactions
- Glycan-based diagnostic biomarkers for ovarian and breast cancers
- Repurposing existing drugs for antimicrobial applications
- Glycan-glycan interactions in pathogen adherence
Major grant funding includes ovarian cancer biomarker discovery (Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation), glycan-based prebiotics for food safety (ARC Discovery Project), and breast cancer detection technologies (US DoD).
Research outputs include development of lectin-based diagnostic assays for cancer detection and characterization of glycan binding mechanisms in malaria, streptococcal, and gonococcal infections. Current projects investigate serum Neu5Gc as diagnostic biomarker for multiple cancers.
