Carlito B. Lebrilla is a Distinguished Professor at the University of California, Davis, holding joint appointments in the School of Medicine (Department of Biological Chemistry) and the Department of Chemistry. His research focuses on developing analytical tools for glycomics, particularly in cancer biomarker discovery and understanding bioactive components in human milk. He has served as Chair of the Department of Chemistry (2008-2011) and holds editorial roles in journals like Mass Spectrometry Reviews and Molecular and Cellular Proteomics.
Education highlights include a PhD and postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California and international institutions. Awards include AAAS Fellowship (2018) and UC Davis’ Distinguished Research Award (2018). His work integrates mass spectrometry with systems biology, yielding insights into glycan roles in health and disease.
Research interests span cancer glycomics (e.g., ovarian, breast, and prostate cancers), neonatal nutrition, and microbiome interactions. Key projects include glycan-based early cancer diagnostics and elucidating milk oligosaccharide impacts on infant gut health. Publications include high-impact works in Cell and Nature.
Grants and collaborations involve NIH, NSF, and industry partnerships. The Lebrilla Lab develops cutting-edge tools for glycan analysis, with applications in personalized medicine and food science.
