معرفی
Catherine Costello is the William Fairfield Warren Distinguished Professor and Director of the Center for Biomedical Mass Spectrometry at Boston University. Her research focuses on structural characterization of biopolymers, particularly carbohydrates and glycoconjugates, to understand their roles in health, disease, and biological processes. She leads NIH-funded initiatives advancing mass spectrometry techniques for glycomics analysis.
Education: MS and PhD in Chemistry from Georgetown University. Research interests include glycobiology, proteomics, and biomedical applications of mass spectrometry. Her lab develops novel methods for glycan structure determination and collaborates globally on studies of cancer, infection, and neurodevelopment. Recent work highlights glycan roles in SARS-CoV-2 infectivity, Lyme arthritis pathogenesis, and metabolic signaling pathways.
Research Trends: Over 15 years, her publications emphasize glycan structure elucidation, mass spectrometry innovation, and translational applications in disease. Recent articles address SARS-CoV-2 spike protein dynamics, obesity-related mTOR signaling, and platform-specific glycan profiling. Collaborations span virology, rheumatology, and space physics, reflecting her cross-disciplinary approach.
Lab & Resources: The Center for Biomedical Mass Spectrometry serves as an NIH-sponsored Resource Center, offering advanced analytical capabilities. Her team’s work impacts drug development, diagnostic technologies, and fundamental understanding of biological macromolecules.
