Christopher Carroll is a Professor of Economics at Johns Hopkins University (JHU), affiliated with the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences and the Department of Economics. He co-chairs the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) working group on the Aggregate Implications of Microeconomic Consumption Behavior. Previously, he worked at the Federal Reserve Board and the Council of Economic Advisors, advising on Social Security reform, tax policy, and bankruptcy reform.

His research focuses on consumption and saving behavior, macroeconomic implications of microeconomic data, and dynamics of household expectations. He explores how households learn from experts and peers to form economic expectations. He also serves as an associate editor for journals including the Review of Economics and Statistics and Journal of Business and Economic Statistics.
Advising and grants: His work integrates empirical analysis with theoretical models, contributing to both academic and policy discussions. Collaborations include the NBER working group and federal economic advisory roles.
