Michael Weber is an Associate Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, promoted from Assistant Professor in 2018. His research focuses on asset pricing, macroeconomics, international finance, and household finance. He is a faculty research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), a Research Affiliate at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), and a Research Professor at the Ifo Institute. Weber advises the European Central Bank, Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, and other central banks, and conducts research on inflation expectations, monetary policy communication, and the impact of macroeconomic shocks on households.
His work has earned the 2013 AQR Insight Award, with notable contributions to understanding how price rigidities, inflation expectations, and policy communications shape economic behavior. Recent research includes studies on the effects of macroeconomic uncertainty, the role of cognitive abilities in inflation expectations, and the implications of climate change on individual behavior. Weber collaborates widely, with co-authors such as Olivier Coibion and Yuriy Gorodnichenko, and his findings have been featured in top journals like the American Economic Review and the Review of Financial Studies.
