Christina Scheffler

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christina Scheffler serves as Head of the Fiber Engineering Department at the Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research Dresden, where she leads research on functional reinforcing fibers and composite materials. Her work bridges fundamental research with practical applications in lightweight construction and sustainable building technologies.

Her research focuses on:

• Development of functional reinforcing fibers with modified surfaces
• Creation of structured boundary layers for composite materials
• Advanced characterization methods for fiber-matrix interfaces
• Sustainable material solutions for construction applications

Prof. Scheffler's department contributes significantly to the institute's participation in major research initiatives including DFG-GRK 2250/1 on impact safety of building constructions and SFB/TRR280 on material-minimized carbon concrete structures. Her work addresses critical challenges in how surface modifications of fibers enhance mechanical properties and durability of composite structures.

The Fiber Engineering Department comprises two research groups: Fiber Engineering and Fiber-based biomaterials, indicating both traditional engineering and biomedical applications of her team's work.
