Christina Ekegren is an Associate Professor at Monash University’s School of Primary and Allied Health Care, leading the Rehabilitation Stream at the RAIL Research Centre and serving as Research Lead for Australia’s first 'Smart Ward' at the National Centre for Healthy Ageing (NCHA). A registered physiotherapist, she is a global expert in clinical population physical activity, focusing on hospitalized older adults and novel measurement approaches. She directs the International Physical Activity Vital Signs Consortium and has secured over $10M in research funding, including an NHMRC Early Career Fellowship.
Her research spans physical activity, aging, rehabilitation, and injury epidemiology, with recent articles addressing dementia engagement, hip fracture recovery, and telehealth. She has supervised PhD students like Dr. Moa Jederstrom and Ms. Sarra Pirmohamed, while also serving as an Honorary Research Fellow at Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute and Research Collaborator at Vancouver Coastal Health.
Scientific awards include the NHMRC Early Career Fellowship, Best Medical Oral Presentation (2017), and multiple Best New Investigator/Poster accolades (2012, 2014, 2016). Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health) and 11 (Sustainable Cities).
